The ink on Eliza Boykin

Eliza Boykin from California.

Where did you grow up?
I grew up between Arizona, Colorado, and Southern California.

How was it growing up there, would you say that it influenced you?
It was awesome most of the time! Of course it influenced me. I think that wherever you grow up influences you, whether you liked it or not. I was always really active, so sports around the areas were a huge influence on style and music: baseball, snowboarding, skateboarding. I hung out with a lot of guys too, so that had a huge influence on my style and uniqueness!

When did you start getting tattoos?
I was 18. I got a gift certificate from my brother for my birthday that year.

How would you describe your style?
My style is definitely me doing what I like! I love fashion. I'm a tom boy with a really cute girly edge. I love to look sexy and cute at the same time. I love to mix high-fashion with edgy, sometimes very contrasting pieces that fucking ROCK together. Like I said, I think hanging around a lot of boys has influenced my style in ways such as, I KNOW what is sexy. I know what boys like! I also know what girls want too; girls don't want to be offended. As long as I look cute, sexy, appropriate for the occasion, and feel good.. my world is golden!!

Do you consider tattoos as a serious art form?
Yes. I wish that everyone else did too! That's why people should do their research. Do your research people!!

How do you see the tattoo culture right now?
Hmm.. bigger than ever. I don't wanna say too much on that. But only do it if you really want it. I've lost a lot of modeling jobs due to tattoos.

What has been your inspiration for getting them?
A passion for art, creative self-expression, deaths, friends, music, being a west coast girl, living in SoCal and Arizona most of my life, family, impulsiveness, break-ups.

What’s your favorite piece?
I like my haunted pirate ship on my upper right arm. It reminds me of my Dad. He was kind of a pirate.

Do you catch people starring at you because of your ink?
I don't know if that's the only reason why they stare, but I do catch people staring at me ALL THE TIME!!

In your opinion, do your tattoos change your mood often?
Nope, I don't really understand that question.

What advice would you give to someone wanting to get their first tattoo?
Really, seriously, ask yourself if you are ready for a commitment like that. I don't think people think it over like they should anymore. Also, it's addicting; that's why I say to ask yourself if you are really ready for a commitment like that. You never know if it will stop.

Will you be getting anymore?
Yep! It's addicting!

What’s your biggest inspiration, what keeps you going?
I keep myself going. I know that I am the only one who can achieve what I want, and I can only depend on myself performing the best I can, always. I've been through a lot at a young age, and that taught me a lot about loving yourself first. You need to make yourself proud and self-drive if you really want to succeed, I believe. After that, you are able to fully give and receive to/from the ones around you, your genuine love.

What is one thing that life has taught you?
Don't give up, stay positive, work hard, play harder!
