The ink on Skyeann Giglio

Skyeann from Newport Beach, CA

When did you first start getting tattooed?
I first started getting tattooed a few weeks before my 22nd bday & I'm 23 now. I wanted to wait till I found the right tattoo artist & was fully content with what I wanted.
How would you describe your style?
I love earth tone colors! So I love to wear greens, tans, & especially white! I'm really into lace & wearing long pretty dresses!
Do you consider tattoos as a serious art form?
Yes I 100% do! I think that everyone holds their very own unique art form!

How do you see the tattoo culture right now?
I see it growing more & more every day. People will always have their own personal opinion to it, & that's fine. But it’s the people who embrace the beautiful art of it that make it better known into something very positive. I can respect the fact that certain people are not into the tattoo culture, but I think there is nothing wrong with it & I love all who are so accepting to it.
What has been your inspiration for getting them?
I think this is a great question. There are so many things that have inspired me through the process up to getting tattooed & still now. All my tattoos tell a story through life & growing up, & hold great meaning to me. They will always be a huge part of my life that carry on so many memories & I love that.
What’s your favorite piece?
I would have to say my sleeve, especially the top half of it. Which is Alice in Wonderland. It represents me when I was younger, & it always reminds me to be inspired to do what I love & to not let anything stop you from what you want to do.

Do you catch people starring at you because of your ink?
Oh my, all the time! But being completely honest, I've never been one to get stared at for the, “omg what was she thinking look.” I get stared at & have people coming up to me on a constant asking about my tattoos & wanting to know the story behind them. And I think that's AMAZING! I even have people that you would never think would be interested in talking to someone that is tattooed, coming up to me & complimenting me on my INK. I grew up in a family that was never accepting of it. So it makes me believe even more that the tattoo culture is growing. And that tattoos on someone can be a beautiful form of art. Everyone just sees it in their own way.

What’s your most significant tattoo and why?
I would say my sleeve & my chest piece, because both hold so much meaning to me that bring back all these memories.

What advice would you give to someone wanting to get their first tattoo?
I would say DO NOT get tattooed just because you, "want to be covered", wait it out until you find the right tattoo artist & you are 100% on what you want. I waited it out until I was almost 22 before I got my very first tattoo, & I think it’s the best decision I ever made. I found the perfect artist who is absolutely amazing at his work & who has given me so much success throughout this past year in a half I've been tattooed. I promise finding the right person to tattoo you & waiting it out instead of rushing into something you might regret later in life is the best way to do it.

Will you be getting anymore?
YES! As of right now I just have my full chest piece & full sleeve on my left arm. Very stoked on more pieces to come.

What’s your biggest inspiration, what keeps you going?
I would say all the amazing feedback I get keeps me going & LOVE what I'm doing even more. One of my biggest inspirations would be people you least expect complimenting you on your tattoos & loving it! It’s people like them that make me feel even more inspired!
What is one thing that life has taught you?
I would say life has taught me so far to never give up in what you want to do, & don't ever let someone bring you down. If you’re passionate about something, pursue it!

Do you have a favorite quote?
"When you have that opportunity to do something amazing, don't procrastinate, take the chance right then & there, because the clock is always ticking.”
